Yankee Doodle Dandy

October 3, 2016

Well it's been a while since my last post so thought I would share with you what goes into a lifestyle product shoot with Yankee Candle.

It was an early start from good old Weston-Super-Mare driving down to the suburbs of London for a 9am start. When I got there the film crew were already in the process of setting up (lucky buggers stayed overnight), and had the majority of their kit spread all over the house and what a house.

A town house from the front and not at all attention grabbing but once you entered, it was like the tardis The rooms went on and on, so light and airy and full of natural daylight, a photographers dream. The decor was very Boho Chic and eclectic but everything just seemed to work.

We were there to shoot Yankee Candles new Riviera range of candles which as always are gorgeous and made the house smell great.

Set up was a challenge as it was a cloudless day with bright sunshine. Ideal I hear you say but no, not for a photographer. You see harsh sunlight creates too much contrast of over bright highlights and really dark shadows, black and white yes, but not for today's shoot. Ideally an overcast day would be better as the clouds act as a natural diffuser giving a much more even contrast and softer light.

Here are a few pictures of set up and final image. I think we got there in the end.
